Visit of Secretary General Raev to the United States of America
Within the framework of preliminary meetings on cooperation projects to be carried out in the upcoming period the delegation of TURKSOY headed by its Secretary General Sultan Raev started its visit to the USA. In addition to bilateral meetings to be held within the scope of the visit, two important events will be taking place.

TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and his delegation are on a visit to the USA within the scope of evaluation and cooperation meetings regarding various projects to be implemented in the upcoming period. In addition to bilateral meetings the visit will also featured two important events.
Special Ceremony for Nobel Prize-winning Scientist Aziz Sancar
The first event within the scope of the visit was held on January 19th, 2025 in Chapel Hill.
Futher events to take place within the framework of the visit will be the opening of the
Sancar Turkish Cultural Centre of the Aziz & Gwen Sancar Foundation. During this opening ceremony, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Mr. Aziz Sancar will be awarded the title of ‘Cultural Ambassador of the Turkic World’ pursuant to the decision met by the Permanent Council of TURKSOY at its of the 40th Meeting held in Shusha, Azerbaijan.
-Special Screening of the film on Magtumguly Fragi Film at the Turkish House in New York
The second important event of the visit will be held on January 21st, 2025 at the Turkish House in New York. Within the scope of the event, the film Magtymguly Fragi, a joint production of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan which won the Grand Prix of the International Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival will be screened following the opening of a photography exhibition on Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World.
-Important Statements by Secretary General Sultan Raev
In the statement he delivered prior to special events to be carried out in the USA, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev pointed out that TURKSOY's international cooperation is increasing day by day and underlined the importance of introducing inspiring pioneers of the Turkic World such as Magtumguly Fragi to the world through special events.
Secretary General Raev further said: ‘Our visit to the USA and events we will organise within this framework are an important step in the promotion of our cultural heritage to a wider audience. On January 19th, 2025, we will present the title of Cultural Ambassador of the Turkic World to our Nobel laureate, the scientist Aziz Sancar at a ceremony to be held at the Aziz Sancar-Gwen Sancar Cultural Centre. Aziz Sancar has inspired us all with his outstanding achievements in science. This special honour emphasises that he is an important ambassador not only in science but also in the international promotion of Turkic culture. Esteemed members of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY, our ministers of culture, made this decision in 2023 at the meeting we held in Shusha, Azerbaijan. We have been in close contact with Mr. Sancar since then; he closely follows up and always supports activities of TURKSOY. We are very happy to award this first title of Cultural Ambassador of the Turkic World to him in a special ceremony. Another special event will be held on January 21st, 2025 at the Turkish House, the Turkevi, which we call our common home in New York. We are really very lucky. The Turkevi is a very important venue for all TURKSOY member countries due to its location and technical capacity. We will show the film on Magtymguly Fragi, which won the grand prize of the International Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival. This film which is a co-production of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, represents the artistic power of the Turkic World and its ability to work together. It is the embodiment of Ismail Gaspirali's motto of unity in language, ideas and deeds. It was prepared as a gift to the people of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birthday of Magtumguly Fragi upon instruction of the President of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev. We attach great importance to the increase of co-productions between our countries. It is a very important gift in this respect. We wanted to honour our artists with our special screening. We invite all friends of the Turkic World in New York to this event where we will also hold a photography exhibition on Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World and Magtumguly Fragi. These events offer a unique opportunity to promote the cultural richness and unity of the Turkic World to a wider audience in the international arena. We are delighted to express the unique richness of Turkic culture, the depths of our common history and our pioneer personalities who will inspire the modern world on these platforms."
