Tracing cultural heritage: Commemoration of Rıspay Abdykadyrov at TURKSOY Headquarters
The International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY commemorated the composer and artist Rıspay Abdykadyrov, one of the founding figures of Kyrgyz music, with a special event in Ankara. The event, which took place in the Conference Hall of TURKSOY Headquarters featured presentions, music performances and cultural exchanges.
Speaking at the opening session of the event, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf expressed his pleasure to see young people and guests who are close to culture in the hall and said that this is promising for the future of the Turkic World. Emphasizing that TURKSOY is not only an organization but also a bridge that carries the cultural heritage of the Turkic World from the past to the present and from the present to the future, Mr. Yusuf said that it is of great importance that young people take an active part in these activities.
Underlining that important names such as Rıspay Abdıkadırov belong not only to the Kyrgyz people but also to the entire Turkic World, Mr. Yusuf said, “We see Chingis Aitmatov is a precious heritage not only for the Kyrgyz people but also for all of us. Rıspay Abdykadyrov is also a part of this culture; he is also our artist.” and pointed out that the intellectuals, artists and philosophers of various parts of the Turkic World are not sufficiently well-known in Türkiye and said that such events are of great importance to overcome this deficiency.
Deputy Secretary General Yusuf concluded his speech with the following words: “What makes Rıspay Abdykadyrov important is that he creates art without breaking away from his people, identity and culture. You may well be a world-famous artist, but if you do not share your knowledge with your own people, you are somehow incomplete. In this respect, Abdykadyrov is a great name who has served his nation.”
Speaking at the event, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Ankara Mr. Ulan Maksatov expressed his appreciation as to the contribution of TURKSOY to such events and stated that Rıspay Abdykadyrov was one of the first artists in the modern sense who reflected the Kyrgyz spirit in art.
In his speech, Mr. Mar Topoyev, the representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to TURKSOY, said that the organization preserves cultural values in every corner of the Turkic World and that the commemoration of Rıspay Abdykadyrov is a part of this mission. Mr. Mar Topoyev further stressed that TURKSOY plays an important role in keeping Abdykadyrov's works alive.
Speaking at the event, the scholar Mrs. Guluzira Jumakunova noted that the artist died at the age of only 52, but left behind a deep cultural heritage. Recalling that Abdyadyrov was awarded the title of “People's Artist” eight days after his death, Jumakunova noted that his art reflects the cultural richness of the Kyrgyz people.
At the event, certificates of appreciation were handed over to the winners of competitions organized in the categories of painting, poetry and song. The event ended with a group photograph taken as a remembrance of the day.
