Secretary General Sultan Raev met with Meskhetian Turks in the United States of America

TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev met with Meskhetian Turks living in the United States of America. Secretary General Raev emphasised that Meskhetian Turks draw attention with their outstanding efforts to preserve and promote  Turkic culture. 

 

In the meeting, Lachin Shuayb, who emigrated to the United States of America many years ago and is known as the aksakal of Meskhetian Turks, was presented a certificate of appreciation by TURKSOY. Secretary General Raev presenting the certificate of appreciation to Mr Shuayb,

 

‘I sincerely thank you for your outstanding services and inspiring community work for the preservation and promotion of Turkic culture in the United States of America.’ In addition to Meskhetian Turks, representatives of various non-governmental organisations also attended the meeting. During the meeting, ideas were exchanged on cultural and artistic activities that would bring together the diaspora members of TURKSOY member countries. Secretary General Raev emphasised the importance of such meetings to strengthen cooperation among the diaspora communities of the Turkic World and to preserve common cultural values. Secretary General Raev also emphasised that the meeting was very important in terms of demonstrating once again that Meskhetian Turks are an integral part of the Turkic World and that TURKSOY is committed to establishing strong ties with the members of the diaspora.

 

About Meskhetian Turks

 

Meskhetian Turks are Turks who were exiled to different geographies throughout history and continue to live in various countries of the world today. On November 14th,  1944, Turks living in a region of Georgia close to the Turkish border, were exiled and settled in different countries. Meskhetian Turks, who managed to preserve their culture despite the difficult migration and exile processes, today live in various countries, especially in the USA, apart from TURKSOY member countries.
