Presentation of the ‘Dictionary of Kazakh Turkic-Turkish Turkic’ at TURKSOY Headquarters
The exhibition of works by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Koç and the presentation of the book ‘Dictionary of Kazakh Turkic-Turkish Turkic’ and ‘Verbs in Turkic Dialects’ were held in the conference hall of TURKSOY Headquarters.
The event was attended by TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf, Folklorist and President of the World Academy of Words Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Ivgin, the retired Governor Dr. Ayhan Nasuhbeyoğlu, the former Rector of the Ahmet Yesevi University and Faculty Member of the Çankaya University Prof. Dr. Mahir Nakip, the Faculty Member of the Hacı Bayram Veli University Prof. Dr. Naciye Yıldız, the Professor of the Haci Bayram Veli University. Prof. Dr. Naciye Yıldız, Prof. Dr. Volkan Coşkun, Lecturer at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Dr. Ludmila Nosova Kuralı, Lecturer at the TED University and President of the Russian Language and Culture Centre (RUSMER) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhazira Otyzbay, Lecturer at the TED University.
Greeting the participants on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf said: ‘The most important thing we need today is to spread and enrich culture and language in the Turkic World and to bring our languages closer to each other. It is necessary to build a common language among the Turks.’
Mr. Yusuf who stressed the importance of the common culture of the Turkic World and thanked Kenan Koç, the author of the dictionary, further said: ‘We are pleased with such works which will contribute to the ideal of unity through a common language.The number of such works to be published should be increased as this will contribute to the cultural unity of the Turkic World through the unity of its language.’
In the speech he delivered at the event, the folklorist and President of the World Academy of Words Mr. Hayrettin Ivgin expressed his appreciation as to valuable works by Kenan Koç and their contribution to the Turkic World as well as concerning the Turkish Language Teaching Centre opened with Kenan Koç in Kyrgyzstan.
In his speech on the past, present and future of the Turkic World, Governor Dr. Ayhan Nasuhbeyoğlu said: ‘Digitalisation, science and technology will further increase interest in languages. It is our common responsibility to ensure the development of the Turkic World.’ and underlined the need to foster terminology in the field of technology in the Turkic World in order to keep up with the ongoing scientifc development.
The opening speeches were followed by the ribbon cutting ceremony of the book ‘Dictionary of Kazakh Turkic-Turkish Turkic’ and ‘Verbs in Turkic Dialects’. Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf handed over the Medal of Honour of TURKSOY to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Koç and said: ‘This is not only for what has been done so far, but for what will be from now on’.
Prof. Dr. Mahir Nakip, who took the floor in the panel part of the event, stated that the Turkic World has different cultures spread across a very wide territory and that this is unique in the world. Prof. Dr. Mahir Nakip further said: ‘If the state disappears, the nation disappears. We ensure this existence through language.’ and emphasised the importance of language.
Prof. Dr. Naciye Yıldız mentioned our first dictionary Dîvânu Lügati't -Türk and emphasised that we have an important place in the field of lexicography and that we should expand our vocabulary every year.
Prof. Dr. Volkan Coşkun, who took part in the panel, talked about the impact of the oldest dictionaries of the Turkic World on today's studies.
Prof. Dr. Ludmila Nosova Kurali said: ‘Turkey and Russia have been connected to each other for centuries. Neighbourhood relations lead to change in terms of language, culture and tradition. We see this mutual interest in the works of both Turkish and Russian literature. There are very close proverbs and idioms in terms of meaning.’ While mentioning the importance of dictionaries in ensuring that the vocabulary is recorded, he said: ’The dictionary that is instrumental in our meeting is important for everyone. Dictionaries, by their nature, cause people to better understand their origins. All the work done ensures interaction and cultural commonality between Turkic nations.’
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhazira Otyzbay emphasised the importance of the dictionary in the development of a language by saying ‘It is important to use printed dictionaries in vocabulary learning and to teach the concept with usage areas and sentence examples in each word learning.’
The closing speech was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Koç who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf and said that it is an honour for him to attend this event held under the auspices of TURKSOY with the special permission of Secretary General Raev to present the ‘Dictionary of Kazakh Turkic-Turkish Turkic’.
The event ended with the presentation of gifts and photo session.
