As a tribute to Prof. Dr. Yaşar Kalafat, who made significant contributions to Turkic culture, an event was organised by the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) to present the book on ‘The Strategic Depth of Turkic Culture’.
Greeting the guests on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf stated that Prof. Dr. Yaşar Kalafat is an important scientist in his field and thanked him for his works contributing to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Anatolia dating back to thousands of years. Mr. Yusuf further emphasised that TURKSOY considers it as its duty to promote such valuable personalities and their works.
Culture is the Identity of a Nation
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Bahattin Yediyıldız stated that “Turkic culture is the identity of a nation and said, ‘Societies with culture become a nation. When a nation brings its culture to a level that will benefit other nations, that culture becomes civilisation. The Turkish nation is a nation that creates civilisation. However, today's level of culture is not yet at the level of civilisation. Therefore, we need to determine our strategy in this direction”.
The Cultural Integration of the Turkic World is Important
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öz stated that more than 100 million Turks live in the world and pointed at the geographical and historical depth of the Turkic World. Prof. Dr. Öz said: ‘We attach great importance to the cultural integration of the Turkic World. In this context, the existence of TURKSOY is extremely valuable. In order to build the Turkic civilisation, we must transfer the codes of our culture to our young people and keep up with the needs of the digital era.’
We Must Respond to the Needs of the New Era
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Fahri Atasoy drew attention to the necessity to promote Turkish culture more in the age of globalisation and to create a common Turkic World culture. Atasoy emphasised that Yaşar Kalafat is one of the rare scientists in this field and said: ‘We need new words, new excitement. We must carry the cultural codes of the Turkic World to the modern world,’ he said.
Prof. Dr. Yaşar Kalafat, who took the floor at the event, started his speech by thanking TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf and those who contributed to the publication of thebook and expressed his honour to be at TURKSOY, which is the symbol of the cultural integration of the Turkic World.
