Presentation of Sultan Raev's book “Delihana” in Azerbaijan
On May 23rd, 2024, a presentation meeting of the novel "Delihana" (Madhouse) by the People's Author of Kyrgyzstan Sultan Raev translated into Azerbaijani Turkic language was held at the "Natavan" Club of the Authors'' Union of Azerbaijan.
Sultan Raev's "Delihana" was the first work of the "Literature of Turkic Peoples" series, a joint project initiated under the leadership of the President of the Azerbaijan Literature Fund Varis Yolchiyev and the President of the Target Group of Companies Shamil Sadik.
The event, which was held in the "Natevan" club of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan, was attended by management staff members thereof as well as well-known representatives of literature and art, and journalists.
In the opening speech he delivered at the event, the President of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan, People's Author Anar Rzayev expressed his pleasure to welcome TURKSOY Secretary General Raev at the Azerbaijani literary centre. Stating that the book "Delihana" is the first work by Sultan Raev published in Azerbaijani language, Anar Rzayev expressed his belief in the fact that this great author of the Turkic World will be strongly appreciated by Azerbaijani readers and added that this project will therefore be sustainable.
The President of the Literary Fund Varis Yolchiyev emphasised that the novel is one of the most important examples of the genre of magical realism and has been published in English, Russian, Turkish and Hungarian languages, attracting a wide readership. Noting that the translation of the work into Azerbaijani Turkish is closer to the original, Yolchiyev reminded the main message of the novel: "Nothing leaves this world without a trace, every evil returns like a boomerang.".
Mr. Shamil Sadik, the President of Hedef Group of Companies, co-founder and director of Azerbaijan Publishers Union, talked about the features of the work. Stating that the translator of the book was Aysel Oguz and the editors were Yunus Oguz and Javid Gedir, Sadik said that the novel tells the stories of seven people who carry the souls of historical figures who died hundreds of years ago.
The Azerbaijani MP, President of the Atatürk Centre, Prof. Dr. Nizami Ceferov talked about the importance of translating such works for the development of common Turkic literature and culture. Stating that he believes that this project will be sustainable, the academician emphasised the importance of translating other works of Sultan Raev into Azerbaijani Turkish.
The Novelist Yunus Oguz, who edited the publication, talked about the features of the translation and editing process and expressed his belief in the fact that the book will be appreciated by the readers.
The Famous film director and People's Artist Vagif Mustafayev said that he had read Sultan Raev's novel "Flood" and described it as the most excellent novel he has read in recent years and expressed his belief that the book "Delihana" is certainly also among the most widely read works.
Mr. Elchin Gafarli, the Country Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY, spoke about the important projects carried out by TURKSOY under the leadership of Sultan Raev and said that Azerbaijan is hosting one of these important projects these days. Speaking about the 2nd Student Theatres' Festival of the Turkic World hosted by the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts and held by TURKSOY on May 20th-22nd, Mr. Gafarli said that such projects play an important role in the development of young artists. Gafarli expressed his belief that Raev's work, published for the first time in Azerbaijan, will reach a wide audience and wished success to everyone who contributed to the project.
The Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts Prof. Dr. Ceyran Mahmudova, the linguist and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharaf Jalilli, the Secretary of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan Elchin Huseynbeyli, the poet and member of the Cultural Committee of the Milli Majlis Akbar Goshali, the poet and Director of the Sumgait Poetry House Ibrahim Ilyasli, the editor of the book Javid Gedir and other participants spoke about the creativity of Sultan Raev and congratulated him on the occasion of the work.
Secretary General Raev who took the floor at the end of the event and signed his book for the participants expressed his gratitude to everyone and shared his happiness with the audience of the event as to the first-time publication of one of his books in Azerbaijan.
