Nowruz visit of the delegation of TURKSOY to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye
The Turkic World welcomes Nowruz with enthusiasm!
On the occasion of this deep-rooted holiday, Secretary General of the International Turkic Cultural Organisation (TURKSOY) Sultan Raev, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf and their accompanying delegation visited the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye. Welcoming the delegation in his office, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mr. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stressed his determination to keep the cultural and historical memory of the Turkic World alive.
‘Nowruz Preserves the Memory of the Turkic World’
Stating that Nowruz reflects the common cultural heritage of the Turkic World and symbolises unity and solidarity as a tradition of thousands of years, Minister Ersoy said that these celebrations strengthen the awareness of history and added: “Nowruz is an important tradition that shows that our ancestors lived in harmony with nature, valued life and created a tremendous way of life”.
Minister Ersoy further added that with the global impact of technology, particular importance must be attached to the protection of cultural heritage and said: “We are struggling against various effects of omnipresent technological products which bring about the alienation from one's own culture. We should therefore take decisive steps towards the future preservation of our own culture and historical consciousness.”

Stating that TURKSOY has been working with great devotion to keep alive the culture and common values of the Turkic World since its establishment, Minister Ersoy said: ‘TURKSOY's place in the hearts of the Turkic World is ensured by its achievements. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye will always be there to support TURKSOY in its endeavour to preserve and promote our common cultural heritage.’
Sultan Raev: ‘Nowruz is the Custom of the Turk, the Feast of the Turk!’
TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev stated that Nowruz is not only a holiday heralding the arrival of spring for the Turkic World, but also a tradition symbolising unity, brotherhood and fertility. ‘Nowruz is a strong bond that brings us together in our common cultural memory. Indeed, the recognition of this important day as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ by UNESCO in 2009 and the declaration of the ‘International Nowruz Day’ by the United Nations in 2010 stands as a proof of the universal value of this holiday.’
The meeting started with Minister Ersoy and Secretary General Raev tossing eggs as a tradition of Nowruz and ended with a musical performance by artists of the delegation of TURKSOY.
