Magtumguly Pyragy was commemorated in UN Headquarters by TURKSOY
In line with the decision of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of his birth, TURKSOY declared 2024 as the year of Magtumguly Pyragy. In this context, various events will be held in the name of Magtumguly Pyragy throughout the Turkic World, especially in Turkmenistan and Türkiye, and in the cultural, artistic and policy-making centres of the world.
An event commemorating Magtumguly Pyragy was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the United States of America on March 25th, 2024 in Conference Hall No. 8. The event was hosted by TURKSOY and the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations in cooperation with UNESCO. Permanent Representatives of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Monaco, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eritrea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Libya, Argentina, Nicaragua, Malawi; Deputy Permanent Representatives of Uzbekistan, Mauritius, Cambodia and the Russian Federation to the United Nations; Chief Advisor to TURKSOY Secretary General and UNESCO Representative attended the special event entitled "Magtumguly Pyragy's Path of Peace on the 300th anniversary of his birth". In addition, various guests from the Permanent Missions of Iran, Morocco, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Republic of Türkiye, Bahrain and Pakistan to the United Nations took part in the event.
Opening speeches were delivered by the organisers of the event, TURKSOY and the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations. After the greeting speech made on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan RAEV, the speeches of the Permanent Representatives of the United Nations participating in the event were delivered. In the speeches made during the event, it was emphasised how meaningful it is to commemorate Magtumguly Pyragy, despite the fact that 300 years have passed since his ideas. Referring to the neutrality status of Turkmenistan, it was stated that Mahtumkulu was the founding father of today's modern and independent Turkmenistan. Magtumguly Pyragy emphasised the idea that conflicts between Turkmen tribes should be ended, tribes should be united and a state should be established. It was emphasised by the speakers that TURKSOY is the representative of the cultural elements of the Turkic World in line with Mahtumkulu's ideas.
At the end of the event, all participants were handed over souvenirs of TURKSOY dedicated to Magtumguly Pyragy and Anev (Turkmenistan), the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World this year. It was emphasised that such events should be further carried out under the auspices of the United Nations and the event was concluded with the wish to meet at the next event of TURKSOY to be held at the United Nations Headquarters.
