International Forum on Strategic Communication held in Istanbul
The ‘International Forum on Strategic Communication’ (Stratcom Summit 24), which was held for the fourth time this year by the Presidential Communications Directorate, was held in Istanbul on December 14th-15th, 2024. The summit held under the motto ‘Artificial Intelligence in Communication: Trends, Pitfalls and Transformation’, brought together expert from the public and private sector along with scholars from 30 different countries to discuss the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in the field of communication.
The summit started with the reading of the message sent by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In his message, President Erdoğan drew attention to Türkiye's pioneering role in the field of communication and digital transformation, and emphasised the strategic importance of artificial intelligence. He also emphasised fairness, transparency and the protection of ethical values in communication.
Vice-President Cevdet Yılmaz, in his opening speech, mentioned the potential of artificial intelligence and communication technologies to shape the world of the future and emphasised the importance of international cooperation in this process. Yılmaz strongly emphasised Turkey's leadership ambition and global contribution in this field.
The summit, which was also attended by TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf, discussed the strategic use of artificial intelligence in areas such as diplomacy, public communication, combating disinformation and crisis management. In the statement he dellivered after the summit, Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf who participated in the forum on behalf of TURKSOY said:
‘Stratcom Summit 24 provided a valuable platform to discuss the new opportunities offered by artificial intelligence in communication and the ethical and strategic challenges it brings with it. As TURKSOY, we care about the impact of digital transformation on cultural diplomacy and continue to play an active role in this process.’
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the forum, the Communications Director of the Office of the President of the Republic of Türkiye Mr. Fahrettin Altun drew attention to the transformative power of artificial intelligence in the world of communication and said:
‘Artificial intelligence is not only a technological development, but also an achievement of civilisation. In Türkiye, our aim is to be a leading actor in this transformation, not just a follower. The Stratcom Summit is part of this vision and plays an important role in building the strategic communication understanding of the future.’
During the forum, participants shared their views on AI-supported public communication strategies, digital media and crisis management. Within the scope of the event, the stands and special artificial intelligence experience areas established by the Presidential Communication Presidency, TRT, Anadolu Agency and various universities attracted great interest.
