International forum on "Hungarians and the Eastern World" held within the framework of the 7th Great Hungarian Turkic Congress
Secretary General Raev delivered an opening speech at the forum held on August 13th, 2022 in cooperation of the Hungarian Turan Foundation with international organizations carrying out activities in the Turkic World.
Secretary General Raev who said that Hungarian scholars played a key role in the emergence of turcology as a scientific discipline shedding light upon Turkic history added that this major step taken by our kindred Hungarian people for Turkic culture and history has paved the way towards the education of great turcologists who will awaken and revive people's awareness about Turkic identity in the Turkic World and that activities carried out by these turcologists play a key role in the cultural and political maturation of Turkic states.
TURKSOY Secretary General Raev who also touched upon the famous Hungarian turcologist Prof. Ármin Vámbéry in his speech said that according to the theory of this famous Hungarian turcologist who played a pioneer role in turcology and did major research on the roots of Hungarian language, the Hungarian people actually migrated from the East in the 19th century and that they have common roots with Turkic peoples. Mr. Raev further added: “With the location of their country and through their ethnic origin, the Hungarian people acts as a cultural bridge between East and West. Given the geographical position of Hungary in Europe and its ties therewith, TURKSOY attaches considerable importance to its relations with the Hungarian people in terms of its contribution to the worldwide promotion of Turkic culture.”
The forum which gathered many scholars from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Hungary took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Sports, Information and Youth of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Jamankulov, the Deputy Minister of Sports Development of Uzbekistan Avazjon Kerimov, the Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Süreyya Er, the President of the International Turkic Academy Prof. Dr. Darhan Kıdırali and the Executive Director of the Office of the Representation of the Organization of Turkic States in Hungary Ambassador Dr. Janos Hovari who touched upon the importance of Hungarian people for the Turkic World in terms of their orientation towards the East as well as of their cultural and historical heritage.
