Guinness World Record broken at the official opening event of Aktau which was declared as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025 by TURKSOY

Within the scope of March 21st, the day on which Nowruz is being celebrated,  a great record was broken in the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, which was declared ‘Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025’ by TURKSOY. 5,000 people dressed in Kazakh traditional garments came together and broke the Guinness World Record in the category of ‘Biggest Gathering of  People dressed in Kazakh Traditional Costume’.
 

More than 5,500 people registered for the event held under the motto ‘Best Feast Nowruz’ and had the opportunity to promote the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people around the world. Experts from various industries, representatives of ethnic groups and participants from all over the country took part in the event.
 

The record-breaking ceremony was held on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The participants were counted by official representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records and confirmed that the requirements were met. After counting, Kazakhstan was declared as the new world record holder and received a special certificate confirming the  registration of the Kazakh traditional garment in the Guinness Book of World Records.
 

Great Success and Celebrations
 

Mr. Nurdaulet Kilibay, the Governor of Mangystau, stressed the importance of this historic event in promoting the cultural heritage of the nation at an international level and congratulated all Kazakh people as well as  all those who participated in the event on the occasion of the Nowruz event.
 

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Kilibay said: ‘Today we have crowned Nowruz with a historic event. We introduced the deep-rooted history and rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people to the world. A world record was broken in the category ‘Biggest Gathering of  People dressed in Kazakh Traditional Costume’ on Kazakh soil. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this major achievement!’
 

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart  Tokayev who took the floor at the  Fourth National Congress in Burabay said that Nowruz plays a special role  in the strengthening of  Kazakh national identity. Upon Tokayev's initiative, Nowruz started to be celebrated for ten days on March 14th, combining it with the Amal Feast.
 

Recognition from Guinness Authorities
 

Mr. Richard Stenning, the official representative of the Guinness Book of World Records, who handed over the special certificate to the Governor of  Mangystau Mr. Kilibay stressed the importance attached by the Kazakh people to their cultural heritage and said:
 

‘Today, Kazakhstan celebrated Nowruz with a major  event which entered history. It is a great honour to see the commitment of the Kazakh people to their traditions and this excellent organisation. I congratulate you all for achieving a historic success!’
 

Entertainment and Cultural Events
 

The celebrations in Aktau were not limited to the Guinness World Record. On the shores of the Caspian Sea, 30 Kazakh traditional tents were set up and an exhibition of traditional handicrafts took place.
 

The event where national dishes were served to the participants also featured traditional sports competitions such as Kazakh wrestling along with minstrels'  competitions and toguzkumalak. In the amphitheatre, artists sang songs, recited poems and performed theater plays. The celebrations ended with a gala concert featuring colourful performances of  famous pop artists of the country.
