Commemoration of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the Poet of Independence

Having carried out many events dedicated to the commemoration of Mehmet Akif Ersoy upon declaration of the year  2023 as Year of the Poet of Independence by the  Permanent Council of TURKSOY at its 39th term meeting in Bursa in 2022, TURKSOY paid tribute to the memory of this illustrious  poet and author of Türkiye.

Following  events organised in Bukhara (Uzbekistan), Baku (Azerbaijan), Skopje (K. Macedonia), Tetovo (North Macedonia), Peja (Kosovo) and Pristina (Kosovo) on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Mehmet Akif Ersoy's birthday, the famous poet was commemorated at his grave in Istanbul on  December 27th, the anniversary of his death.

Within the framework of the ceremony hosted by the Governorship of the Republic of Türkiye in Istanbul and held at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Edirne  with the participation of the Governor of Istanbul Mr. Davut Gül and  the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY Mr. Sayit Yusuf, some earth brought from Peja (Kosovo), the homeland of  Mehmet Akif Ersoy's father and from Bukhara (Uzbekistan) the homeland of his mother was sprinkled on the grave of the poet.
