Award Ceremony of the Fourth Korkut Ata Film Festival of the Turkic World

The ‘Fourth Korkut Ata Film Festival of the Turkic World ’ ended with a magnificent ceremony. The closing ceremony of the Festival held in Ashgabat on  November 13th-15th, 2024 took pplace in an impressive atmosphere, bringing together  artists, directors and filmmakers from Turkic states.

The awards in the categories of ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Screenplay’, ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ were presented at the award ceremony held at the Mukamlar Pavilion with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Mihricemal Mammedova, the Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan Atageldi Shamuradov, the Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, the Head of the Cinematography Agency of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan Shuhrat Ryzayev and many other guests.
 

The  jury members of the festival this year were Mammetnazar Saparmyradow (Turkmenistan), Rakım Samgar (Kazakhstan), Artıkpay Suyundukov (Kyrgyzstan), Hilol Nasimov (Uzbekistan) and Derviş Zaimoğlu (Turkey), Öwezgeldi Welmyradov (Turkmenistan), Satybaldi Tekeyev (Kazakhstan), Taalaybek Kulmendeev (Kyrgyzstan), Shuhrat Mahmudov (Uzbekistan) and Israfil Kuralay (Türkiye).
 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev said:

‘Distinguished guests, esteemed film workers and friends of culture, this year we are happy to celebrate together the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtumguly Fragi, the wiseman not only of Turkmenistan but also of the Turkic World. It has been an unforgettable experience for all of us to come together in the beautiful city of Ashgabat in Turkmenistan with the fourth Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival. The verses of Magtumguly Fragi, one of the symbols of Turkic culture and art, have been echoing in hearts for centuries and today they bring us together and strengthen our cultural ties even more. I would like to express my gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the People's Assembly of Turkmenistan Mr. Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov for their support to TURKSOY by hosting this meaningful event. This festival is a cultural journey carrying the roots and values of the Turkic World cinema to the future. We are proud that this festival, which was initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye four years ago, has turned into a gathering in Ashgabat where Turkic filmmakers, producers, screenwriters and actors come together and blend our culture together. I would like to thank all my colleagues who contributed to the organisation of the festival for their meticulous and devoted efforts. Cinema is a power that makes the voice of the Turkic World heard, tells the story of its peoples, and keeps alive the values that make us who we are. As Magtumguly said, ‘Each word is like a part of my soul’.
 

In the past three days, we came together on the cinema stage and saw, heard and felt our soul. Now it is time to celebrate this success and present our awards. I sincerely congratulate all our artists who won awards at the festival and wish them continued success. I am honoured to have come together with you in this cultural journey which we will preserve as a legacy to transmit to our future generations. Thank you.’
 

A Night Crowned with Awards
 

Within the framework of the festival, the Award for Contribution to Turkic Culture, given annually to an artist from TURKSOY member countries, was presented to N. Allaberdiyev, S. Tekeyev, A. Nazarqulova, E. Konuk and Sh. Rızayev. In addition, the TURKSOY Special Award, which is also presented annually, was awarded to M. Musayev.
 

The ‘Best Documentary Film’ award went to the production ‘Aleme Belgilidir’, filmed in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Magtumguly Fragi, and the creative team of the documentary received a standing ovation for several minutes. The ‘’Best Director‘’ award went to Hakan Yonat from Türkiye for the film Dr Sadık Ahmet. The ‘Best Actress’ award went to D. Melayeva and the “Best Actor” award went to D. Urazayev. The ‘Best Screenplay’ award went  to the film ‘Error 404’, which attracted attention with its innovative narrative style.
 

The Grand Prix of the festival was awarded to the film ‘Magtumguly Fragi’, a joint production of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The  jury of the festival also crowned  the film ‘Composer’ with a special award.
 

In the documentary category, the Best Documentary Award went to Turkmenistan with Aleme Belgilidir. ‘Vaveyla’ from Türkiye, which also  participated in the festival came second  and ‘The Beginning of the Wind’ from Kazakhstan  came  third. Uzbekistan's ‘Right Go, Salametle Gel’ and Bashkortostan RF's ‘Monisto’ were both awarded the  Special Prize of the  Jury.
