2nd Workshop of Country Coordinators of the Museums' Union of TURKSOY held in Kyrenea
The 2nd Workshop of Country Coordinators of the Museums' Union of TURKSOY hosted by the TRNC Department of Antiquities and Museums and held in cooperation with the Deputy Prime Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment and the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY took place in Kyrenia on April 8th-9th, 2025.
At the official opening held with the participation of the President of the TRNC Mr. Ersin TATAR, Mrs. Emine ZIBA, the Director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums of the TRNC, Mr. Serkan GEDÜK, the Head of the Museums Department of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, and Dr. Barış Cavid MÖVSÜMLÜ, the General Coordinator of the Museums' Union of TURKSOY wished a successful workshop to the participants and made suggestions on the issues to be addressed.
The workshop, which was held with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şirin MELİKOVA, Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan), Lezet SAGINDIKOVA, Director of Almaty Museums Union (Kazakhstan), Alibek NURGALI, the Deputy Director of the Union of Museums of Almaty (Kazakhstan), Ali Haydar ATALAR, the Director of the July 15th Democracy Museum (Türkiye), Lüdmila MARIN, the Director of the Gagauz National Museum of History and Ethnography went on with the session chaired by Emine ZIBA, the Director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums of the TRNC.
During the workshop, which took place in the format of mutual exchange of ideas, important issues such as the activities of the Union in 2025 and 2026, the development of cooperation projects between TURKSOY Museums Union and TRNC Museums in the field of museology, increasing digital activities, etc. were discussed. It was decided to prepare and realize interactive projects for children in museum activities as soon as possible. After the workshop, museum directors from the Turkic World attended the official opening ceremony of the Museum of Crates and Doors of Cyprus , which was held with the participation of the President and his wife Mrs. Sibel TATAR.
On April 9th, 2025, the country coordinators visited the museums and archaeological sites located in Kyrenia, Famagusta and Nicosia. During the visits, the directors of “Kyrenia Castle and Museums”, “Derviş Pasha Mansion Museum” and “Salamis Archaeological Site” received certificates of membership of the Union of Museums of TURKSOY upon their application.
At the end of the day, the closing ceremony of the 2nd TURKSOY Museums Union Workshop was held with the participation of President Ersin TATAR. During the closing ceremony, the President and the Director of the TRNC Department of Antiquities and Museums Emine ZIBA delivered speeches and the Head of the Department of Relations with Turkic Speaking Communities Dr. Barış Cavid MÖVSÜMLÜ delivered a speech of gratitude on behalf of Secretary General Sultan RAEV and handed over certificates of appreciation of TURKSOY to those who contributed to the realization of the workshop. The closing ceremony ended with a Turkish Cypriot folklore performance and a concert.
