The cultural heritage of the Kokand Khanate is being further preserved
TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev visited workshops which are still preserving traditional crafts of the Kokan Khanate.
Within the framework of his visit to the region of Fergana in Uzbekistan on the occasion of the international conference entitled “The Role of the Kokand Khanate in the Development of the State Tradition and Cultural Heritage of Turkic Peoples, Secretary General Sultan Raev met with craftsmen who are still preserving traditional manufacturing processes today.
The first stop of TURKSOY Secretary General Raev were the pottery workshops in the region of Rishtan where he visited houses turned into workshops and watched carftsmen at work, drawing patterns on various items of pottery by hand. Mr. Raev who was also informed on stages of the manufacturing process examined each of the items of pottery featuring unique colourful designs.
Mr. Sultan Raev then went on to the city of Mergilan known for its traditional weaving and tailorship.
Secretary General Raev who visited famous workshops producing silk and cotton carpets and carefully examined them, received some information thereon such as the number of knots per square centimeters as well as the thickness and colour of the threads used to produce various types of carpets and expressed his gratitude to Uzbek craftsmen for their precious contribution to the preservation of these ancestral traditions.
TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev also visited the tailor's workshop producing garments with traditional fabrics of Uzbekistan featuring traditional patterns and closely examined the work done by the tailor.
