When was TURKSOY established?
The International Organization of Turkic Culture was established in 1993 upon signature of its founding agreement by the Ministers of Culture of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey.
Which countries are members of TURKSOY?
TURKSOY gathers 14 member countries 6 of which are founding members while the remaining 8 member countries hold an observer status within the organization. Click on the following link to view the list of TURKSOY member countries.
Where does the acronym TURKSOY come from?
TURKSOY was initially established as the Common Administration of Turkic Culture and Arts, i.e. “Türk Kültür ve Sanatları Ortak Yönetimi” in Turkish language and was later on renamed as “International Organization of Turkic Culture”. Its acronym nevertheless remained the same: TURKSOY.
How is the budget of TURKSOY put together?
TURKSOY’s budget is composed of contributions payed by the ministries of culture of its member countries. Besides this budget, various events carried out by TURKSOY are financed through additional resources provided by local governments, universities and NGOs.
Which actvities and events are traditionally carried out by TURKSOY every year?
Nevruz celebrations are the most important traditional events carried out by TURKSOY. Besides these celebrations, TURKSOY also organizes various gatherings of artists bringing together photographers, painters, opera singers, poets, journalists, theatre, dance and music ensembles of the Turkic World. What is the organizational structure of TURKSOY?
The function of Secretary General of the organization has been assumed by Mr. Sultan Raev. The Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY is Sayit Yusuf. The staff of the organization is further comprised of representatives of TURKSOY member countries who are appointed by the Ministries of Culture of their respective countries of origin.
Related institutions
The Organization of Turkic State , the Turkic Academy and the Foundation of Turkic Culture and Heritage are organizations which TURKSOY Works in coordination with. Within the framework of various projects it realizes, TURKSOY also carries out cooperation activities with the UNESCO, the ISESCO and the International Foundation for the Humanitarian Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States which are international organizations sharing the same principles and ideals as those of TURKSOY.
Where are TURKSOY Headquarters based?
